Vineyard Nutrition Featuring Fritz Westover
Vineyard fertilization strategies are dependent upon numerous factors including the yield goals of the grower, seasonal nutrient status of vines and soil, and changing weather conditions. The grower must carefully consider what nutrients are needed for each vineyard block and then must determine the best products, rates and methods of application to maximize efficiency and minimize costs. This workshop will provide an introduction to the most commonly applied fertilizers in vineyards, methods to determine rates of various fertilizers in vineyards, including solid, liquid and organic fertilizers such as compost. The best methods for collecting plant and soil nutrient data will be presented along with some real-life examples of how to correct and prevent nutrient deficiencies in terms of fertilizer strategies and methods of application (ground vs. foliar).
