Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Seminar
Learn how to manage access and functional needs concerns and address the Americans with Disabilities Act in healthcare emergency preparedness and response. Federal and state funding grants and preparedness programs require that entities and facilities address individuals with access and functional needs. Whether during an emergency or normal operations the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requires specific considerations for access to facilities and services. Understanding the requirements related to access and functional needs before and during an emergency situation is important for reduction of risk in healthcare entities. The seminar will provide participants with a review of the ADA and how it applies to healthcare entities. The session will explore how rules and standards change during emergencies and how they are applied in mass care and sheltering situations. Participants will explore common facility pitfalls related to ADA, violations that often occur in healthcare, and practical steps to avoid liability under the ADA. The seminar will include presentation of information as well as opportunities for participants to share experience, ask questions, and explore scenarios.
