Seed Cleaning, Processing, and Storage
Even after seed has been harvested and had an initial winnowing in the field, it may require further processing using techniques such as screening or fanning. We will demonstrate these final stages of seed cleaning using using both low tech methods with common household tools, and also the Farm Table Seed Shed equipment. Bring seeds you've harvested, and we'll show options for ways to get them cleaned. The class will also include winter squash seed harvest and extraction; seed storage and record-keeping; and planning for next year, along with any of your questions. Presenter: Kathleen Plunkett-Black of Plum Creek Seeds is a lifelong gardener. She grows all the vegetables needed to feed her family year-round. Kathleen grows her own seeds for over 200 varieties of vegetables, grains, dry beans, flowers, and herbs.
