Regina Spektor, the New York singer, songwriter and pianist who was born in Moscow, plays quasi-classical piano, sings with a musicality that goes from girlish to Bronx brassy and takes extremely rhythm-oriented approach to lyrics. In her story songs Spektor refracts a sense of mortality with wry humor. She is a favorite of everybody from the violinist Joshua Bell to Lin-Manuel Miranda to Barack Obama and wrote the theme song to the groundbreaking Netflix series "Orange is the New Black" Her newest album, released in 2016, is "Remember Us to Life."
