Fall Seed Harvesting and Cleaning
Learn how to harvest, dry, thresh, and winnow seeds for dry-seeded crops like peas and beans. Discussions will include: squash seed harvest; biennial root crops for next year's seed; and how to handle immature seeds if there's a threat of early frost. Presenter: Kathleen Plunkett-Black of Plum Creek Seeds is a lifelong gardener. She grows all the vegetables needed to feed her family year-round. Kathleen grows her own seeds for over 200 varieties of vegetables, grains, dry beans, flowers, and herbs. She has been an active member of the Seed Savers Exchange for over 30 years and has led many workshops on gardening and seed saving. She is passionate about teaching and passing on the skills of subsistence gardening and seed saving.
