Company Wang Ramirez
She’s a dancer raised in Germany by Korean parents, trained in ballet, but fascinated by hip-hop and martial arts. He was born in the south of France and catapulted from gifted b-boy to international dancer and choreographer. Together, Honji Wang and Sébastien Ramirez have created Company Wang Ramirez and they make their Northrop debut with Borderline, a dreamlike work that combines hip-hop, contemporary dance, acrobatics, visual poetry, and the illusion of weightlessness. Aerial rigging allows the dancers new powers of movement, letting them defy gravity as they struggle against the forces of restraint. To original music by lacrymoboy, these stunning technicians burst out flurries of looping, spiraling shapes with fluid control, using each others’ bodies as counterweights, balanced at impossible angles.
