Hoodie Allen
Hoodie Allen
WebsiteMySpaceFacebookTwitterLinks
Make every word count. This has long been the mantra of Hoodie...Allen, the New York based rapper and songwriter. With a penchant for candid storytelling and witty punchlines, Hoodie has always been an emcee who understood the importance of connecting with the audience through his lyrics. A purveyor of summertime anthems, Hoodie Allen has gained notable buzz on the internet for his unique genre-blending style, unafraid to sample from the unconventional norms of hip hop. His most recent work samples a diverse array of artists and sounds from UK pop singers (Marina & The Diamonds) to indie rock staples and upstarts (Death Cab for Cutie). The idiosyncrasy of the music is very fitting as Hoodie Allen is not your typical rapper. A self-described "college educated music nerd", Hoodie Allen embraces his individuality and promotes it as the main message in his hype-machine breakout "You Are Not A Robot" (2010). The future is bright for Hoodie Allen. He plans to continue providing the masses with feel-good music for a long time. .... -

Sarah Jarosz
Supporting Acts: Ben Kyle (of Romantica)
Sarah Jarosz
Sarah Jarosz has as rich a skill set as anybody...in acoustic music. She plays, not just one instrument, but enough of them to be a one-woman string band: mandolin, octave mandolin, clawhammer banjo and guitar. She sings - in supple tones that transcend the boundaries between folk and pop - and she writes - old-timey ballads and modern singer-songwriter ruminations alike. Raised just outside of Austin in Wimberley, Tex., Jarosz blossomed within the local music scene and well beyond it, earning admirers from Austin City Limits' Terry Lickona to acoustic music mavens Tim O'Brien and Chris Thile with her mature sensibilities. She released her debut, Song Up In Her Head, on Sugar Hill Records the year she graduated high school. What followed was a move to Boston's prestigious New England Conservatory, a GRAMMY nomination and performances on "Austin City Limits" and "A Prairie Home Companion" as well as prestigious music festivals - Bonnaroo, Telluride and Newport, to name a few. In May of 2011, Follow Me Down, came out, a sophomore album that coincided with the end of her sophomore year of college. It channels her ever-broadening musical horizons, and again showcases her songwriting, offers two tasty covers and includes a number of top-notch guests from Punch Brothers to Shawn Colvin. The album release was followed by a whirlwind tour packed into her summer break; Sarah managed to cover a large portion of the United States, make several forays into Canada as well as two trips to Europe. This fall, she returned to NEC for her junior year, which will be punctuated by more touring.... -

Ottmar Liebert & Luna Negra

Nouveau Flamenco Guitar Master
“rich, sensual guitar stylings.” -All Music
Ottmar...Liebert is one of the most successful instrumental performers in the world. A pioneer in the Nouveau Flamenco style, which incorporates traditional flamenco technique in a modern pop context, his success seems to stem naturally from his pan-cultural upbringing.
“Liebert is smooth and sensual, coaxing subdued, passionate melodies from his acoustic with elegance and feeling.” -CD Universe
Born in Cologne, Germany to Chinese-German father and Hungarian mother, he began playing guitar at 11, and traveled extensively through Europe and Asia intent on fully absorbing each musical tradition he encountered. After pursuing his Rock and Roll dreams first in his native Germany and then in Boston, he abandoned the frustrations of the East coast and settled in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Within a matter of months he had founded the first incarnation of his new band Luna Negra. His debut release, Nouveau Flamenco, was entirely self-produced and released in 1989. Soon radio stations picked the record up generated an incredible buzz, so much so that it was picked up by Higher Octave Music and reissued in a fully mastered format. It went double platinum and became one of the best selling instrumental guitar records of all time. Within a year, Liebert found himself as an opening act for Miles Davis.
Over the last two decades Liebert has amassed an enviable list of achievements: he has released 25 albums, garnering five Grammy nominations and 38 Gold and Platinum certifications in the U.S. alone, as well as certifications in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. His acclaim worldwide is nearly unmatched.
• “Snakecharmer,” one of Liebert’s hit singles
• a great clip from a recent live show...
